Summary: Here’s what the organisers have to say:
“One of the original and most who have ridden say the best mixed surface sportives in the UK is back for 2015 with the return of the Tour of the Cornfields on Sunday 6th September. The 100km (62mile) circular loop starts in Royston, Herts, and takes in the beautiful Herts and Cambs countryside in a roughly 50/50 mix of trail and tarmac making it suitable for both cyclo cross and mountain bikes. The surfaces and terrain make this an ideal course for gravel road type bikes with wide tyres.
The fully marked route starts at Wimpole Hall and heads north in an anticlockwise direction using a mix of bridleways, byways and quiet country B roads (there are even some singletrack sections on the off road parts). It is a predominately flat course with only one hill but the lack of climbing is more than compensated by the relentless change of surface and direction, which will keep you constantly challenged. The off-road sections are the fun and challenging parts especially as the distance increases and the tarmac provides a welcome relief and rest in between these sections. If the wind is blowing on the day it’s going to be even tougher.
There is one feed and mechanical stop on the course at half way point so riders will need to carry any additional food and spares needed to last the 100km distance.”
Previous Tour Of The Cornfields have funded Youth & Junior cyclo-cross development and proceeds this year will fund the Eastern Cyclo-Cross Assocoation’s Youth training and race program.
